Texas Electrician License Renewal Requirements for 2026

1. The 4-Hour Continuing Education Requirement

The most important requirement for all Texas electricians is completing 4 hours of state-approved continuing education (CE) before your license expires. This applies to almost all license types under the TDLR.

2. What Must the CE Course Cover?

You cannot take just any course. The TDLR mandates that your 4 hours of continuing education must cover specific, up-to-date topics to ensure job site safety. Your course must include:

• National Electric Code (NEC): Updates and revisions to the 2023 NEC.
• Texas Law: The Texas Electrical Safety and Licensing Act.

3. Do I Have to Take a Test?

No! As long as you take your hours through an approved provider, there is no exam or passing score required for your CE renewal. You simply need to complete the course material.
